GQ Book 4 progress/status

When I started publishing the GQ books, I didn’t know what I was doing. I still don’t, really. But I thought I basically had four finished books, and I thought I could put one out every three months. It really seemed reasonable! I wanted to be done by mid-June for reasons. But A Willful Romantic (GQ Book 3) took four months, which meant I only had two months to finish Book 4, which is the longest one, and needed the most retrofitting and work, and that simply didn’t happen.

It’s really important to me to finish this project (or at least the main part of it) and not be interrupted or go off on tangents, so I changed some plans, and I’m giving myself the full three months to finish. I’m hoping to put out A Collar and Tie (GQ Book 4) and the as-yet-untitled Martin story out in mid-July.

And someday I’ll have time to figure out how to format print books :)

  1. Take the time you need to do it right! Once it’s out there you can’t take it back to fix. I think that’s the hardest part of writing–deciding when to call it “Done!”

Good luck, and keep making it great for us!

  2. Take your time. I am in awe of people who can write stories. And as a reader I had so many thoughts as to where the the story could go next, I am sure you have to think it through and satisfy yourself.

  3. It’s been a long time since a series has caught my attention, and I am looking forward to this installment. I have truly enjoyed being immersed in Henry & Martin’s mileu. Take the time you need.

  4. Dear Darrah

As a reader, let me tell you that it’s worth the wait to get it right. What you have done is remarkable and if it means a happy ending with [most of] the loose ends tied off, I’m happy to plod along rereading the earlier books to get my regular dose of Henry and Martin. You mentioned in an earlier post that you had a number of other GQ tales in the pipeline too. They will be a regular supply of comfort too to addicted readers. Thank you again for the wonderful generosity of spirit you display in your writing. You’re a natural.

Oh, and one simple plea: can you tie up the George and Theo story us from Pals? I think I wait as anxiously as Henry does for the monthly paper.

    All strength to your hand,

    Henry

  5. Thanks for the update Darragh
I’ve been getting twitchy waiting for the latest instalment. You have made the right decision to delay until you are happy with the final GQ – and Henry and Martin deserve nothing less.
Take all the time you need, it is so worth the wait.

    1. I’m so glad you’re looking forward to the rest of their story! I’m getting close <3

  6. Dear Darrah,

Is there a likely date for the publication of the final parts of GQ? No pressure – but we’re all interested.

    With sincere thanks,

    Henry.
